WHAT DOES C2C MEAN?
Cradle to Cradle is a pioneering, innovative platform for creating products, processes and systems with a positive impact on people and their environment, and on entrepreneurship. Cradle to Cradle was developed in the nineties by Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart and architect William McDonough. In contrast to traditional “sustainable” design, that was aimed at reducing the negative impact by making it “less bad”, Cradle to Cradle is aimed at creating positive impacts for users and other interested parties. The creation of continuous cycles of materials into a ‘circular economy’ forms part of this.
CRADLE TO CRADLE CORE TOPICS
Cradle to Cradle product certification is both wide-ranging and demanding. It requires a radical change in the way you think about how a product is designed, what it is made of and what happens to it after it is used. It is a system that functions as a guideline both for product developers and producers and that inspires them to create products in which quality, beauty and innovation are reinvented. The quality aspects are subdivided into 5 core topics.
The lowest core topic score determines the final level of the product. When a product obtains a platinum certificate in four categories, but a bronze certificate in the last one, the product thus obtains the bronze certification level as the final Cradle to Cradle level. In this way, manufacturers of materials are encouraged to strive for a high quality of the product in all areas. NOFISOL® products are therefore certified at SILVER level despite scoring gold and platinum in various core topics.
